About us
Sunny Sill is an independent guide for people who want healthy houseplants and a few homegrown herbs, without a garden.
Most plant advice assumes you have a greenhouse, a backyard or a lot of time. We started Sunny Sill for everyone else: renters, apartment dwellers and busy people with one good window and a few pots.
Every guide focuses on the decisions that matter most — how much light a spot really gets, when to water, which soil and pot to use, and what to do when a leaf turns yellow — with clear steps you can follow this week.
Our advice draws on published guidance from university extension services and horticultural organisations. We don't sell plants or supplies, and we don't accept payment to feature brands.
Who we are
Sunny Sill is written and maintained by the Sunny Sill Editorial Team, a small group of writers and editors who research each topic against professional guidance before publishing, and revisit guides when that guidance changes.
What we cover
- Plant Care Basics — Pots, soil, repotting and the routines that keep plants healthy.
- Light & Watering — The two things that decide whether a plant thrives.
- Easy Plants — Forgiving plants and how to look after each one.
- Pests & Problems — Yellow leaves, drooping, pests and how to fix them.
- Grow Food Indoors — Herbs, greens and microgreens on a sill or balcony.
We also build free calculators, such as the Watering Planner.
